New store The Range in Gloucestershire to create more than 100 job roles

JOBS: Around 120 jobs are set to be created thanks to the opening of a new store in the county.

The Range is to open in Gloucester next April, bringing with it part-time and full-time roles.

Vacancies include store and department managers to warehouse and administration staff.

The Range said there would be opportunities to develop skills and grow with the company.

It offers more than 65,000 products across 16 departments, including DIY, homewares, furniture and arts and crafts.

The business is owned and run by South West-based entrepreneur Chris Dawson.

Chris (pictured) said: “Gloucester is a location with so much potential, we are continuing to grow fast and expand and I am confident that The Range Gloucester will help us in doing this.”

The new store, The Range’s 87th, will be located at the former What Stores on Eastern Avenue.

Earlier this year, almost 200 workers at The Range warehouse in Mitcheldean were left devastated after they were handed their notices.

Employees were told in March the distribution centre would close in September and relocate to a DHL-run site near Doncaster.

Bosses said they would offer to relocate some staff but many said with family nearby they would not be able to move.

A spokesman for The Range at the time said the business started the process with 300 staff at risk and could confirm 185 staff had been issued notice, due to 115 staff finding alternative employment in other companies and within The Range and DHL.

Mr Dawson added: “It was a tough decision to close the distribution centre however we are confident that the new store will create lots of new jobs and hopefully become an integral part of the community.

“I would like to thank the council for welcoming us and being so supportive. We feel that The Range is a unique shopping experience that has something for everyone and we are confident that the people of Gloucester will enjoy what The Range has to offer.”
