Pictures & Video: Winners of the Bath Chronicle Business Awards 2013, sponsored by Thrings Solicitors

Management consultancy firm Nine Feet Tall swept the board at last night's (September 26) Bath Chronicle Business Awards 2013 (#bathbizawards).

The company was not only crowned Business of the Year but its founder and director Esther McMorris took the top accolade of Business Person of the Year.

Ms McMorris launched the company almost ten years ago as a one-man-band but now the operation employs 23 people and last year achieved a turnover of £1.6 million.

More than 400 of Bath’s business movers and shakers have enjoyed a glittering awards evening at Bath Racecourse hosted by former Blue Peter presenter Valerie Singleton.

The title of Small Business of the Year went to journal publisher From You to Me and the Lifetime Achievement Award, which celebrated a person’s contribution to the city’s business community, was presented to Brian Roper.

Mr Roper, who was awarded an MBE for his extensive charity work, was the founder of Roper Rhodes bathroom firm which moved to the city in 1985. He established the principle of the company giving three per cent of its profits to charity each year.

Now retired, he has given £6 million to charity during his life supporting Bath-based good causes such as Julian House and Bath Festivals.

Bath’s sex-toy firm Lovehoney also scooped two awards tonight walking away with Best Business Website and the Customer Service Award.

Other winners included the Abbey Hotel which won the Leisure and Tourism Award, Duncan Glendinning, founder of the Thoughtful Bread Company, was named Young Entrepreneur of the Year, Park Lane Press took Environmental Business of the Year and the award for Innovative Start Up Business of the Year went to Go Active Coaching.

There were two winners for the Training and Development Award, which was shared by manufacturer Polamco and architects Stubbs Rich. Moss of the Bath was awarded Retailer of the Year, the Bath BID won Contribution to the Community Award and Sarah Jones from CircleBath was named Best Employee of the Year.
