Lucknam Park Hotel and Spa business has been named the best hotel in the South West.

The five-star venue in Colerne won gold for Large Hotel of the Year at the South West Tourism Excellence Awards.

The awards, which are held in association with Source for Business, were announced last week in Plymouth. The event was hosted by ITV Westcountry news presenter Ian Axton.

Lucknam Park is well known for Michelin star chef Hywel Jones who runs the hotel’s restaurant The Park, its spa and equestrian facilities and its cookery school run by chef Hrishikesh Desai.

This year’s awards attracted 350 entries for its 19 categories, which covered hotels, pubs, attractions, bed and breakfasts and events.

Winners from the regional awards will now go on to represent the South West at the National Enjoy England Awards for Excellence in May.

Chair of judges, Alistair Handyside, said: “This year we have had the most entries ever and the most challenging judging, the list of finalists really does look like a who’s who of the best in the South West. Once again the entrants have surpassed themselves in showing that investment, innovation and creativity remain at the heart of the visitor economy in the region.”
