Exeter firms up for awards

EXETER firms are among the shortlisted entrants for the FSB Devon Business Awards 2009.

Nutshell Natural Paints, based at Matford Park, is in the running for the Award for Environmental Responsibility, sponsored by Envision and Global Action Plan.

Managing director Alan Back said: "We are delighted to be nominated for this award. Nutshell Natural Paints are dedicated to showing our customers that a sustainable future is nothing to be afraid of, but rather something that we can all look forward to."

Sure Languages is nominated for both the Award for Best E-Business, sponsored by BT Local Business, and the Award for Best New Business.

The firm, which provides translation, interpreting and multilingual creative services, is based at the Innovation Centre at the University of Exeter.

Managing director Paul Bickham said: "By developing a technology strategy that has delivered real improvements to both our business and our customers, we have increased customer satisfaction and loyalty and provided added value."

Graphic design and marketing agency Red Rocket Design has been shortlisted for the Award for Workforce Development.

Business manager Jane Mason said: "It is great news to be nominated for this award. We are a small company with limited funds but we have always strived to provide our staff with training that they required or asked for.

"We hope that expansion of knowledge helps to keep our staff happier and makes them feel of worth."

Winners will be announced at a ceremony at the Palace Hotel, in Torquay, on Friday, June 5.
