Friday, July 30, 2010, 09:00

175 years after the Great Western Railway began life the Grape Western Railway will pull into Bristol.

Nine million bottles of wine will go through a depot near Bristol Temple Meads on their way to Constellation Europe's Avonmouth warehouse. It is Europe's biggest wine warehouse and the firm says the reopened rail link will mean 10,000 fewer lorries on roads. Under the Network Rail and Freightliner scheme, seven trains will enter the South Liberty Lane depot a week.
