Bristol crematorium operator to expand

A crematorium operator has announced plans to open four new sites across the UK.

The Bristol-based Westerleigh Group has secured £25 million in funding from Lloyds Bank Commercial Banking.

The loan will enable the group to open sites in Newport, Cambridge, the Test Valley and Aylesbury before the end of the year.

Westerleigh Group already directs more than 30,000 funerals a year across its 26 existing sites, with 250 people in employment.

The expansion is aimed at meeting demand for cremation and burial services in the UK.

Dafydd John, financial director at Westerleigh Group, said: “We pride ourselves on the outstanding service and high quality care we provide to the bereaved, and the opening of our four new sites will help us to reach out to more people across the UK.”

Andy Hart, relationship director at Lloyds Bank Commercial Banking, said: “With more people preferring cremation over burial, the opening of four new Westerleigh Group sites is helping to meet demand for high quality cremation services.”
