These Bristol companies scooped top accolades at the Great British Entrepreneur Awards

Two Bristol firms have scooped top prizes at the Great British Entrepreneur Awards.

Mick Lindsay, founder of team-building company Mocean, and Steph Wheen, of activity centre Gympanzees, were both named Entrepreneur of the Year at the black-tie event in Cardiff.

Mick won the 'service' category award, while Stephanie picked up the prize in the 'Entrepreneur for Good' category.

Now in its sixth year, the Great British Entrepreneur Awards acknowledges the hard work and inspiring stories of British businesses.

The awards are held in five cities – Birmingham, Cardiff, Edinburgh, London and Manchester with the winners being invited to a special celebration at Coutts Bank on Pall Mall in January.

Creator of the Great British Entrepreneur Awards Francesca James said: “Entrepreneurs inject competition into markets, create jobs and spur innovation.

"These awards are different because they celebrate the story behind these people – true entrepreneurs are as much about their story as they are about their balance sheet.”

Both Mick and Steph are members of the Natwest Entrepreneur Accelerator programme, which helps people to scale and grow their businesses.

Mick said: "Both Steph and I are delighted to be named ‘Entrepreneur of the year’ and we hope that this will help propel our businesses to the next stage of their journey.

"It’s certainly justified recognition for all of the long hours and hard work needed to set up and scale a business."
