West of England Combined Authority appoints new directors

The West of England Combined Authority (Weca) has appointed two new directors.

Shahzia Daya as has joined Weca as director of legal services and Malcolm Coe has joined as director of investment and corporate services.

Daya is a local government solicitor and monitoring officer, previously worked for Bristol City Council.

She said: “I have been privileged to serve the region for over 25 years, so I’m familiar with the challenges and opportunities the combined authority needs to embrace in order to deliver for the West of England. 

"I am really looking forward to being part of the team at WECA and creating a better place for people to live, work, study and visit.”

Malcolm Coe joins from North Somerset Council, where he was head of finance and property. He has worked in a variety of public-sector finance positions in past 30 years.

He said: “This is a really exciting opportunity for me to use my skills and experience to help drive the future growth and development of the region.

"Having worked locally for the past three-and-a-half years, I have already developed strong relationships with many of the key partners, and I look forward to expanding these relationships further.”

Chief executive of WECA and the West of England Local Enterprise Partnership Patricia Greer said: “We have a strong team with the right mix of skills and expertise to deliver our vision to drive economic growth for all, including knowledge and experience within the region.”

Daya takes up her role on August 13, while Coe will take up his role in October.
