Housebuilder announces plans for hundreds of affordable homes in Bristol, creating 7,500 jobs

Barratt Developments is planning to build a ‘community’ of houses on the outskirts of Bristol, creating thousands of jobs in the process.

A total of 2,450 new homes, including more than 800 affordable properties, are to be built at Ladden Garden Village in North Yate.

The major investment project from Barratt Developments is one of the largest ever outside London.

Chris Burton, regional managing director for Barratt Developments, says the new community at North Yate is “good news for home buyers, the local jobs market and the wider community”.

He said: “As the UK’s leading housebuilder we are delighted to be developing such a large and prestigious site in the South West.

“Ladden Garden Village will create valuable new homes, provide a wealth of community facilities and employment space and it will support around 7,500 jobs over the lifetime of the development.”

Construction at Ladden Garden Village is due to start next spring with the 10-year project incorporating a new primary school, extra care housing a local centre and public open space.

The land at North Yate has been allocated for new housing and received outline planning permission in 2015.

“This is an extremely important development both for Barratt Developments and for the North Yate area,” said Burton.

“With the purchase of the land now complete we move into more detailed planning stage. Currently we are delighted to be finalising plans for the first phase of 160 homes from Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes which will released for sale next year.”
