Bristol's best-performing law firms named in Legal 500 2017

The top legal businesses in Bristol have been revealed in a guide to the industry’s best firms.

The Legal 500 2017 ranks law firms for their performance in areas including corporate and commercial law; crime, fraud and licensing; dispute resolution; finance; human resources, insurance; private client; projects, energy and natural resources; public sector; real estate; technology, media and telecoms; and transport.

According to the guide, after a short period of uncertainty following the EU referendum, the region returned to “business as usual”.
A number of long-established firms including Burges Salmon and Osborne Clarke were highlighted in the guide, "proving that you don't have to go to London for quality advice".

Mentions of other legal heavyweights include TLT, Clarke Willmott and DAC Beachcroft.

Stephen Rosser, Clarke Willmott chief executive, said: “We are delighted with our numerous rankings in the Legal 500 again this year and we’re especially pleased to receive top-tier rankings in no less than eight practice areas across the firm.

“The Legal 500 is among the most prestigious industry guides and rankings are partly based on client feedback which is a great indication of the quality of our work and the services we provide.

“The recognition reflects the time we invest in developing relationships with our clients, our high level of service and our straightforward approach.”

Veale Wasbrough Vizards, which is based in Narrow Quay, was recognised for its work in charity and education, while Bevan Brittan on Queen Street was highlighted for its public sector work.

Duncan Weir, managing partner at Bevan Brittan, said: “We are very pleased with a strong set of ratings in this year’s influential Legal 500 guide.

“We take great pride in the quality of our staff as individuals, so it is gratifying to see such a high increase in the number of recommended lawyers at the firm and a doubling of the number of leading lawyers.

“Our strength in health and local government is well-known, but we are steadily building our depth in advising private organisations too – so I am delighted that this has been recognised within our employment and construction practices.

Bristol-based Thrings and Bond Dickinson, which have been "strengthening their capabilities”, were also acknowledged while Foot Anstey's on-the-ground presence in the city was highlighted.

John Westwell, managing partner at Foot Anstey, said: "The Legal 500 has yet again acknowledged our dedication to client service and another year of strong performance at Foot Anstey."

"The independent research praises our particular brand of advice with our specialist lawyers consistently commended for understanding clients' needs, exceptional client service and business acumen.

“Our clients remain our priority at all times and we thank those who provided feedback to the guide and helped us achieve these results.”
