Destination Bristol chief exec discusses 'exciting plans' for city at Bristol Post breakfast

Business leaders and entrepreneurs gathered at DoubleTree by Hilton Bristol City Centre yesterday (2 November) for a business breakfast hosted by the Bristol Post.

The last Bristol Connected event of the year, which was held at the four-star hotel, saw chief executive of Destination Bristol John Hirst discussing his plans for the city.

Mr Hirst said there is “no reason” Bristol should be attracting fewer tourists than Liverpool “because our city has a lot more to offer in terms of a line-up of things to do and see”.

He said an arena will be important to Bristol’s future success and said the city needed to see its football team in the Premier League.

When questioned about the problem of public transport, he admitted it was “something that needs to be and is being addressed”.

Rob Rodgerson, business manager for Bristol and Bath at the Bristol Post, also welcomed the Post’s new business editor, Hannah Baker (pictured above with hotel general manager John Dowling).

Prior to joining the Bristol Post Ms Baker worked at the Institute of Directors in London for Director magazine and at Think Publishing as deputy editor of three business publications.
