Zoology student wins green award
Nicola Morris, 36, who is completing a degree in applied zoology at Cornwall College, Newquay, was presented with the green award at the annual Cornwall College star awards ceremony.
The awards celebrate outstanding student achievement and effort throughout the year.
Nicola received the award for a review assignment on the value of offshore wind farms to marine conservation.
She also demonstrated commitment to additional activities around the course, such as attending training and additional talks, representing her group on programme committees and contributing to the development of the college green team.
Lawrence Moores, curriculum area manager for applied zoology, said: "Nicola's review assignment is worthy of distribution to stakeholders in industry and conservation."
The ceremony was held at the Atlantic Hotel, Newquay. A total of 13 awards were presented, including student of the year and accolades for progress, sporting achievement and volunteering.
Nicola's award was one of two new categories this year, the other being apprentice of the year.
In most categories three candidates were shortlisted from more than 200 nominations, with the winners each receiving a trophy and £100, while runners-up received a certificate of commendation and £25.
Dave Linnell, the principal of Cornwall College, said: "The star awards celebrate the achievements of some truly exceptional students who deserve to be recognised."
